Nissan 240sx S13

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Drain transmission fluid. Remove drive shaft. Disconnect starter wiring. Remove starter.
2. Remove exhaust support brackets attached to transmission. Disconnect exhaust pipe(s) from manifold(s). Disconnect electrical connectors, control cables, shift linkage and hoses as necessary for removal. Disconnect speedometer cable.
3. Remove transmission fluid filler tube. Remove torque converter housing inspection plate. Mark torque converter in relation to drive plate for installation reference. Remove torque converter bolts.
4. Support transmission with transmission jack. Remove rear mount and crossmember mounting bolts. Remove engine-to-transmission bolts. Carefully remove transmission.

INSTALLATION
1. Before installing torque converter, measure drive plate runout with a dial indicator. If runout exceeds .020" (.5 mm), replace drive plate. Install torque converter into transaxle, aligning index marks made during removal.
2. Ensure torque converter is seated by measuring distance from drive plate mounting pad to engine mating surface of transaxle. If distance is not as specified, torque converter is not seated.
3. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Apply sealant to torque converter bolts before installing bolts. Rotate crankshaft several times to ensure torque converter moves freely without binding. Tighten nuts and bolts to specification.

TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

NOTE: On vehicles with electronic chassis controls, all systems should be functional before attempting riding height or wheel alignment adjustment.

1. Before adjusting alignment, check riding height. Riding height must be checked with vehicle on level floor and tires properly inflated. Bounce vehicle several times, and allow suspension to settle. Measure from ground to top center of wheel opening.
2. Visually inspect vehicle for signs of abnormal height from front to rear and side to side. Check passenger and luggage compartments for extra heavy items and remove if present. If riding height is not within specification, check, repair or replace suspension components.
