How to Jack Car and Remove Wheels Properly

GeneralAutoRepair

The following procedure will assist you in the proper ways of jacking up your vehicle and removing the wheel safely. The first procedure covers those without an air compressor and impact wrench.

For those without air compressor tools
1. Refer to your owners manual for proper vehicle lifting points.
2. Place hydraulic jack under lifting point. Pump jack until it makes contact with the lifting point.
3. Pump jack one or two more times. This will remove some weight off the wheel to be removed.
4. Use T-Bar or appropriate socket with breaker bar to loosen lug nuts. You only want to loosen the lug nuts. Do not remove them at this point.
5. Pump hydraulic jack until wheel is lifted from ground.
6. The lug nuts can now be removed. The wheel may be stuck onto the hub so a tap from a rubber hammer may be needed to force wheel off.

For those with air compressor tools
1. Refer to your owners manual for proper vehicle lifting points.
2. Place hydraulic jack under lifting point. Pump jack until wheel has been lifted off the ground.
3. Use impact wrench with appropriate socket size to remove lug nuts. Wheel can now be removed.
