Mazda RX-7 Power Antenna Systems: feeder, assembly and etc.
Mazda RX7 1993-1995 FD3S
CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle.
Rear power antenna elevation is fully automatic. With the ignition switch in ON or ACC position, the antenna will elevate whenever the radio is turned on and will retract when the radio or the ignition switch is turned off.
COMPONENT LOCATIONS
For component locations, see Fig. 1 and Fig. 2.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
POWER ANTENNA
Check motion of power antenna. See Fig. 3. If antenna does not operate as specified, replace power antenna assembly.
Fig. 3: Trouble Shooting Power Antenna
SYMPTOM TESTS
POWER ANTENNA DOES NOT RAISE OR LOWER
1. Check for blown METER (15 amp) fuse, CIGAR (15 amp) fuse and ROOM (10 amp) fuse in fuse block behind left side of instrument panel. See Fig. 4 . Replace as necessary. If fuses are okay, go to next step.
2. Check if radio operations is normal. If operation is not normal, repair or replace as necessary. If radio is okay, go to next step.
3. Turn ignition switch to ACC and turn on radio. Measure voltage at power antenna 6-pin connector. See Fig. 5 and Fig. 6 .

COMPONENT TESTS
ANTENNA FEEDER
Remove audio unit. Verify that there is no continuity (infinite ohms) between the outer plug and inner plug of antenna jack. If there is continuity, replace the antenna feeder.

RADIO RELAY
Remove radio relay. Check for continuity for radio relay. See Fig. 8 and Fig. 9 . If continuity is not as specified, replace radio relay.

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle.
ACOUSTIC WAVE(R) GUIDE ASSEMBLY
Removal
1. Remove in order illustrated, referring to Removal Note . See Fig. 10 .Remove the clamp fastener and raise the clamp.
Fig. 10: Removing Acoustic Wave Guide Assembly
When removing, the right side acoustic wave(R) guide assembly, take care not to damage the sealing sponge in the right side acoustic wave(R) guide assembly. If damaged, the sound quality will be poor.
2. Remove the wing nut and the right side guide.
3. Remove the clamp from the venter acoustic wave(R) guide assembly by rotating it clockwise.
4. Remove the wing nut and nuts mounting the other parts of the center acoustic wave(R) guide assembly.
5. Disconnect the connector.
6. Slide the center acoustic wave(R) guide assembly to the left and remove it from the vehicle.
Installation
1. Connect the acoustic wave(R) guide assembly with the clamp in the following order. Fit the center acoustic wave(R) guide assembly into the groove of the clamp first then fit the right side acoustic wave (R) guide assembly.
CAUTION: Do not fit guides in the opposite order, or the seal packing on the center acoustic wave(R) guide assembly could be damaged. Center acoustic wave(R) guide assembly damaged seal packing will affect the performance of the acoustic wave(R) guide assembly.
2. Close the clamp and fasten with fastener.
ANTENNA MAST REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
CAUTION: Do not disassemble the antenna mast. Check the end of the plastic rack for damage. If it is kinked or broken, replace the antenna mast.
1. Using snap-ring pliers, remove mounting nut. See Fig. 11 . Turn ignition switch to ACC or ON position. Turn radio on and pull out antenna mast. Check the end of the plastic rack for damage. See Fig. 12. If rack end is kinked or broken, replace power antenna motor.
2. With ignition switch in ACC or ON position and the radio ON, feed rack of new mast into motor with toothed side facing front of vehicle. See Fig. 13 . Turn radio OFF. While motor is retracting rack, feed mast into motor.
3. Reinstall mounting nut. With ignition switch in ACC or ON position, turn radio ON and OFF a few times to verify that antenna operates smoothly.

AUDIO UNIT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
1. Remove the control box side cover.
2. Remove the audio unit service hole covers by using a tape-wrapped screwdriver.
Reuse the service hole covers. For the Type 2 system, 2 sets of Radio Removing Tools (49 UNO1 050) are required.
3. Insert the Radio Removing Tool (49 UNO1 050) into the service holes with the notches facing inward.
4. While expanding the Radio Removing Tool (49 UNO1 050) outward, pull the audio unit out of the center console.
5. Disconnect the connectors and antenna jack, and remove the audio unit.
6. To install, reverse removal procedures.
POWER ANTENNA ASSEMBLY
Removal
If vehicle is equipped with Bose Acoustic Wave(R) music system, remove Bose Acoustic Wave(R) guide assembly. Remove trunk side trim and disconnect power antenna connector and antenna feeder. Using snap-ring pliers, remove mounting nut. Remove fasteners and remove antenna assembly. See Fig. 14 .
Fig. 14: Removing Power Antenna Assembly
Disassembly and Reassembly
1. Remove antenna mast and ground plate. See Fig. 15 . Remove ground plate "O" ring, rod insulator and rod insulator "O" ring. Remove mast assembly from bracket. Remove drive mechanism cover from motor drive unit. Remove drive mechanism, antenna relay and drain pipe.
2. To reassemble, reverse disassembly procedure.
3. To install, reverse removal procedures.
