How to check if your brake rotors are warped

GeneralAutoRepair

If you've noticed over time a pulsating or vibrating brake pedal during braking then this is a good indication that your brake rotors may be warped. The following procedures will help determing if you will need new rotors.

1. Jack vehicle up on area where you will be checking for warped brake rotors. FYI: lifting points may differ from vehicle to vehicle. Jack stands will be needed to keep vehicle stable.
2. Remove wheel.
3. Take straight edge ruler and put up against rotor. If gap is noticable between straight edge ruler and rotor then the brake rotor is warped and will need replacement. FYI: Resurfacing the rotor will not straighten the rotor.

WARNING: Take care not to breath in brake dust. Brake dust is filled with asbestos which causes mesothelioma cancer and or tumor. Mesothelioma destroys tissue and organs and have the potential to spread to other parts of the body. Always clean brake parts with a certified brake parts cleaner before working on the brake system. This will reduce the amount of exposure to asbestos.
